  1. Source of the Nile River, Jinja Uganda

The source of the Nile River, lake Victoria, is located in Jinja Uganda, the country’s ‘adventure’ capital.  It is here that activities such as Kayaking, Bungee Jumping, Quad Biking, and Rafting usually happen. Jinja is also where the famous ‘Nyege Nyege Festival’ happens.  The Nile River has two tributaries namely the White Nile, and the Blue Nile which meet in Khartoum South Sudan, flowing northward through Sudan, Ethiopia, Egypt, pouring into the Mediterranean Sea.

  1. Genocide Memorial, Kigali Rwanda

A tribute to the victims of the 1994 genocide, the Kigali Genocide Memorial is the resting place of multitudes that were slain in the genocide. The genocide memorial is also an educational center that provides a wealth of knowledge to those seeking to acquaint themselves with the social, political, and economic circumstances that led to this tragic massacre against the Tutsi.  Whilst the place is healing for some, it is a painful space for some. The Memorial holds on-going exhibitions and sessions about the Genocide, has names of the victims, and has gardens for those seeking solace and reflection, in context with the Genocide. If in Rwanda, make it a point to visit the place.

Located in the Norak County, South-western Kenya and bordering Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, the Maasai Mara National Reserve is one of the continent’s remarkable wildlife conservation areas. The reserve is popular for being home to various wildebeest, and as well, Africa’s big five; that’s to say the Lion, The Leopard, the Rhino, The Buffalo and the Elephant.  Masai Mara also has quite a scenery, and is home to the Maasai people. It is also occupied by the Masai River and its tributaries, a source of water to both wildebeest and other creations.

The Masai Mara National reserve is regarded as one of Africa’s most premium safari destinations, with activities including game drives, hot-air balloon safaris, cultural visits, among other activities. The place attracts visitors from across the globe – a worthy addition to your bucket-list.

Home to the Great Wildebeest Migration and other threatened species, the Serengeti National Park is in conjunction with Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve. Serengeti is however, allegedly more biodiverse, as it covers a vast area of approximately 14, 763 square kilometers.

Now one of UNESCO’S heritage sites, Serengeti National Park is also home to Africa’s Big Fives, and an undeniable home to large concentrations of predators. The park is also popular for its vast grasslands, riverine forests, the Savanna, forests and unforgettable landscapes. Intending to visit Tanzania, add Serengeti to your bucket list.

  1. The Rwenzori Mountains

Of course, Richara Safaris and Tours is Ugandan, so we are quite biased. That is why we’ve made our fifth destination Ugandan too! The Rwenzori Mountains, also know as the Mountains of the MOON, are located in Western Uganda and bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The mountains are quite a spectacular scenery, with majority of the peaks hidden in the skies, thus the name, ‘Mountains of the Moon’. The mountains are also a source of springs, majority of which flow through neighboring areas of Ruboni, Kasese,  and so forth. The mountains are popular for diverse vegetations, chilly weather, glaciers, and water falls. The slopes of the mountains are also used by the locals, to grow coffee.

Tourists visit the mountains throughout the year, including hiking and mountaineering, often summiting to the Magherita, Rwenzori’s highest peak. Visitors also explore the lush rainforests, glacial peaks, birding, photography, crater lakes and waterfall sceneries, diverse landscapes and fauna.
